Varkala is one of my favourite beach resorts in India, luckily still not too spoiled by tourists. It is placed in Kerala, at the cliff known as Varkala Formation.  These tertiary sedimentary formation cliffs are a unique geological feature on the otherwise flat Kerala coast. There are several cosy hotels alongside the cliff and usually it is possible to stay in a room facing the Ocean. The nights and mornings are incredible!

Laws are sand, customs are rock. Laws can be evaded and punishment escaped, but an openly transgressed custom brings sure punishment. – Mark Twain
